Visit in Italian
The Capitol Library will host a thematic visit on the history of the city starting from the oldest representation of Verona, The Raterian Iconography, a synthesis of realism and idealization, urban history and autobiographical narrative.
Contained in a Belgian manuscript dating back to the 10th century that has been lost, it is now possible to admire it through two 18th-century copies, one handwritten, that belonged to the intellectual Scipione Maffei and is currently displayed in the new museum rooms of the Capitol Library, and a printed one accompanying a volume by Giambattista Biancolini.
During the meeting, participants will be able to observe the two specimens from a unique perspective, comparing the numerous similarities and subtle differences.
The exhibition will be enriched by additional texts held in the Capitol Library's collection, which describe or depict the city of Verona over the centuries.
