In 2025, Verona celebrates the 25th anniversary of its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
On November 30, 2000, in Cairns, Australia, the plenary session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee inscribed the city of Verona on the World Heritage List.
The celebrations for the 25th anniversary of this recognition include a busy schedule of events, including the Conference hosted on November 24 at the Palazzo della Gran Guardia, titled “A past that opens to the future.”
An intense day of presentations and studies on the significance and future of the Site, addressing many crucial themes including historical heritage conservation, urban regeneration, tourism management, and digital innovation.
The day will begin with institutional greetings, and immediately after, the Conference will start with a presentation by Michela Sironi Mariotti, the mayor of Verona in 2000, titled “ The World Heritage Site and its management.”
Following this, there will be a Round Table: Historic center between UNESCO management plan and municipal urban planning.
The afternoon will continue with a series of presentations dedicated to “Enhancing the World Heritage city.”
