On the opening Sundays of the Archaeological Museum of Isola della Scala, the Archaeological Association of Isola della Scala, with the support of the Municipality of Isola della Scala, presents three conferences on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East, led by architect Marco Comencini and museum curator Federico Biondani, related to the travelers' journeys and experiences.
The first meeting will introduce us to Arabia Felix, traversing the Incense Route from Oman, through Yemen, to the two important Nabataean cities: the little-known Hegra in the Saudi Arabian desert and the famous Petra, the capital of the Nabataean kingdom in present-day Jordan, concluding finally at the ports of the Mediterranean. The second meeting will lead us through the archaeological and biblical testimonies of the Holy Land and to Jerusalem, with the Temple and the Holy Sepulchre. The third meeting will take us to the city of Troy, the setting of the Homeric epic, between the palace of Priam and the tomb of Achilles.
During the meetings, practical information about currently visitable sites will also be provided.
