Directed by Serena Sinigaglia and based on Aristophanes, the play at the Roman Theatre presents the provocation and female rebellion against the war involving their men.
In the background is the awareness that war has always plagued humanity and seems unstoppable, so much so that the solution conceived by the women is extreme: to revive life and love, united by a single purpose, they organize a sex strike.
Can a sex strike by women be a solution to stop the war? To revive life and love? Today more than ever, this hilarious and perfect theatrical text speaks to us, and its ancient call resonates powerfully: “Women of the world unite!”
Marking this will be the brilliant Lella Costa, who for over 40 years has made audiences laugh and cry with her performances and continues to advocate for women's rights and value. In this reading of Aristophanes' comedy, her presence lends a new dimension to Lysistrata, making her an even more powerful and contemporary figure, capable of enchanting and provoking reflection at the same time.
