Written in 1752 by Carlo Goldoni, "The Mistress of the Inn" remains one of the most famous masterpieces of the Italian repertoire today.
The comedy features Mirandolina, a clever and attractive young woman who runs an inn in Florence that she inherited from her father, with the help of the waiter Fabrizio. She is constantly courted by the guests at the inn, including those of noble rank, but she does not give in to anyone. And when an arrogant, misogynistic Knight arrives at the inn who tries to give her orders, Mirandolina vows to make him fall in love with her only to publicly reject him.
Marina Carr, in the role of Mirandolina, offers a reworking of the original, examining the life of the woman and the predators around her to highlight unfortunately still relevant themes such as female fear and the price many girls have to pay when they react.
