The Cultural Association Quinta Parete presents the art exhibition Fra’ Giovanni da Verona: 500 years since you.
The exhibition, held in the crypt of the church Santa Maria in Organo, is dedicated to the most important intarsiatore of the Renaissance, in the five hundredth year since his passing.
This exhibition reveals the spirituality and relevance of the language of Fra’ Giovanni da Verona.
On display, in addition to the works of the Veronese monk, are numerous mostly unpublished works by some of the best artists from the National Review of Italian Wooden Intarsiatore.
Alongside intarsia depicting subjects from the artistic tradition, one can admire modern languages such as Futurism, Abstractionism, and Metaphysics in a comparison that guides the visitor to reflect on the evolution of the art of carving.
Featured are the contemporary artists and scholars who, for many years, have been involved in spreading the art of wooden intarsia through exhibitions, conferences, and conventions narrating the iconographic evolution in a journey from the Renaissance to the present day. Through the work of 19 intarsiatore, visitors will be able to learn about and experience the spirituality inherent in the art of Fra Giovanni da Verona.
The exhibition is a traveling project that will touch all the geographic areas where the monk worked: Verona, Lodi, Asciano, and Naples.
