On the occasion of the 1500th anniversary of the death of Theodoric the Great (454-526 a.d.), king of the Ostrogoths and a key figure in Romano-Barbarian history, the Municipality of Verona and the Departments of Cultures and Civilizations, Languages and Foreign Literatures, and Legal Sciences of the University of Verona present a series of public events about the Gothic king, creating a program of initiatives aimed at promoting knowledge of the places and traditions linking him to the city of Verona.
The name of Theodoric the Great, who chose Verona as his preferred city for his reign, is inextricably linked to the early medieval history of the city and to the mythical figure of Theodoric of Verona (Dietrich von Bern), protagonist of a foundational legendary heroic cycle in medieval and post-medieval Germanic cultural traditions.
