In Vestenanova, the "round lake" and the "Stanghellini waterfall" are located in the bed of the Alpone River, about 200 meters from the Stanghellini district.
The beauty of the location is determined by a waterfall formed by the stream and the underlying pond, but above all by the extraordinary columnar basalts consisting of "columns of immense volume, mostly six-sided or with six faces, but often pentagonal, quadrilateral, or triangular," "a mass of basalt columns that resemble the trunks of trees cut down in the Cadorin woods."
It is a magnificent example of "prismatic columnar jointing according to planes perpendicular to the upper and lower surfaces of the lava flow and reminds us of the classic basalts of Fingal's Cave in the Hebrides and the Giant's Causeway in Ireland."
This is how scholars have expressed themselves who have had the opportunity to visit and admire this natural phenomenon of great naturalistic and scientific interest.
In 1994, the area was improved by a group of volunteers from the Pro Loco, creating a path, a staircase, a small bridge over the stream, and clearing the pond of debris.
In recent years, maintenance has become increasingly difficult, and a cleaning operation for the area is awaited.
