"There is a place in Verona where the heartbroken leave notes, asking Juliet for her help..." (Letters to Juliet)
When it comes to love, Verona has it all, from Juliet’s Club, the association which has kept alive the legend of the two Shakespearean lovers for years by answering letters sent to Juliet, to theatre shows, with spectacular performances at the Teatro Nuovo and Casa Shakespeare.
In the run-up to Valentine’s Day, the normal romantic atmosphere of the city is not enough for us, we want more! For many years now, love is in the air in Verona in February, with all sorts of events and shows themed around the festival of lovers..
Verona in love
Let the lights that illuminate the city be your guide, leading you towards Piazza dei Signori and the courtyard of the Mercato Vecchio, where you can find rows and rows of stalls selling every kind of local produce: high quality jewellery, artisan souvenirs, sweet treats and delicacies to share with the person you love. During the event, a number of talented musicians and artists take to the stage in the square, making the festive atmosphere even more special. And, overseeing it all, Dante atop his column. At this special time of year, the whole city celebrates love: theatres, bars, restaurants, bookshops and shops put on a range of special initiatives, such as themed romantic dinners, book presentations and shows. If you are a lover of cinema, do not miss Schermi d’Amore, the romantic film festival which is held every February in the Teatro Ristori.
A rich and varied selection of events to enjoy in the city in these special days when there is truly something for all: for sports enthusiasts wanting to burn off some calories, there is the Romeo and Juliet Half Marathon, an opportunity to run in the stunning surroundings of our city at the most romantic time of the year. Love is our forte in Verona: Cupid loves to hide away in the little streets of our old city, on the lookout for new victims to fire his bow at, in league with Juliet who, from the courtyard of her house in Via Cappello, listens to the prayers of lovers from all over the world and keeps silent watch over Verona.
