Since its first performance in 1974, the masterpiece by Garinei and Giovannini debuts at the Arena di Verona on Saturday, October 10.
The musical comedy by Pietro Garinei and Sandro Giovannini, written with Jaja Fiastri, with music composed by Armando Trovajoli, features Giovanni Scifoni as Don Silvestro and Lorella Cuccarini as Consolazione, with a tribute to Enzo Garinei, who will be vocally present with La Voce di Lassù.
The cast includes Marco Simeoli as the Mayor, Sofia Panizzi as Clementina, Francesco Zaccaro as Toto, and Francesca Nunzi as Ortensia, along with an ensemble of twenty performers and dancers.
The story, loosely inspired by "After me the deluge" by David Forrest, tells the adventures of Don Silvestro, the parish priest of a mountain village, who one day receives an unexpected phone call: God Himself commissions him to build a new ark to face the imminent second universal flood. Don Silvestro, aided by the villagers, succeeds in his endeavor, despite the greedy Mayor Crispino who will try to thwart him in every way and the arrival of Consolazione, a woman of easy virtue, who will put the men of the village to the test.
Once the ark is finished, at the time of boarding, a cardinal sent from Rome intervenes, convincing the villagers not to follow Don Silvestro, whom he claims dishonors the garment he wears. The flood begins, and only Don Silvestro and Clementina, the young daughter of the mayor who is hopelessly in love with him, find themselves on the ark. The water starts to submerge the villagers; Don Silvestro decides to abandon the ark, a safe refuge, to share that terrible moment with his faithful. An infinite act of love. Then God, seeing His project fail, interrupts the flood and sets the rainbow. It closes on a table in celebration, celebrating the return to serenity blessed by God.
An unmissable event that brings together two excellences of Italian culture: a nationally significant musical comedy and one of the most prestigious stages in the world.
