Allestimento del fruttaio

All citizens are invited, especially children, to help set up the Fruttaio of Porta Verona: as every year, volunteers from the Friends of the Ancient Towers Association hang the Garganega grapes under the medieval tower, at the entrance to the historic center of Soave. This is an indigenous grape variety that gives rise to the Soave DOC white wine and the Recioto di Soave DOCG.

This tradition is a demonstration of the ancient technique of drying grapes on the sticks, which was once carried out by hanging the bunches for the “recie” (ears in the Veneto dialect), that is, the upper part of the bunch. They were hung with proper spacing for correct air circulation, to be left to dry. With this grape, left here for about three months, a fragrant must was obtained that was finally transformed into a special wine: the Recioto di Soave.

The tradition is renewed thanks to the Association and the farmers who bring over 1500 bunches of grapes here, which are hung to produce the famous wine. It is a tribute to the rural culture of origins but also an extraordinary showcase for the Borgo dei Borghi 2022, which is increasingly loved and appreciated also from a landscape perspective for its "Vitated Hills", recognized as Historical Landscape of Italy.
