Archaeological guided tour of the Scaligeri Excavations

The Civic Museums of Verona, in collaboration with Spazio Aster and the Educational Office of the Civic Museums, are organizing extraordinary archaeological visits to the Scaliger Excavations until July 11, one of the symbolic places of the heritage of Veronese Roman culture.

In the heart of modern Verona, a few steps down reveal an incredible underground archaeological path uncovering over two thousand years of the city's history. Below the level of the current street, the Scaliger Excavations show how Verona has grown over time, stratifying different eras: from the structures and domus of the Roman age, moving through the Lombard phase, to the medieval transformations associated with the rule of the Scaligeri, leading up to modern history.

Buildings, mosaics, streets, sewage systems, and infrastructures allow us to reconstruct the shape of the Roman city, also thanks to the interesting archaeological materials on display, while the reuse of Roman structures in medieval architecture provides us with intriguing clues left by the various epochs characterizing this corner of the city. The underground Verona of the Scaliger Excavations thus becomes a true journey through time, telling the long and fascinating story of the city through the traces preserved thanks to archaeologists and restorers.
