Ancient materials were used both for practical functions and especially as decorative elements. The walls of some churches became a sort of lapidarium, showcasing the remnants of a distant past that brought glory to the local community.
The exhibition, through a series of panels with texts and especially images, aims to illustrate the phenomenon of re-use in the medium and low plains of Verona, examining the churches that still preserve Roman testimonies: from that of Bastia in Isola della Scala to those of Campalano, Correzzo, Santa Maria Maggiore in Gazzo Veronese, San Pietro in Valle, San Zeno in Cerea, San Salvaro in San Pietro di Legnago, up to those of Ronco all'Adige and the Eastern Veronese (Volpino, San Zenone in Minerbe and Marega).
Inauguration
Inauguration Saturday, September 19 at 5.00 p.m. with a speech by Federico Biondani (curator of the Archaeological Museum of Isola della Scala) on “The phenomenon of re-use in the Veronese plain”.
Following the guided tour of the exhibition and an aperitif for attendees.
