FASCISM RESISTANCE FREEDOM. 1943 – 1945
13 September 2025 h 10:00On the occasion of the eighty-year anniversary of the Liberation from Nazifascism (1945-2025), the Municipality of Verona, Department of Culture and Department of Historical Memory, the Civic Museums, in collaboration with the Veronese Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Age, present at the Castelvecchio Museum the exhibition "FASCISM RESISTANCE FREEDOM. 1943 – 1945".
The exhibition is hosted in a location chosen deliberately: the Boggian Hall of Castelvecchio was indeed the site of the congress of the Republican Fascist Party and the venue for the trial of the fascist “traitors” of the Grand Council; an episode that emphasizes the dramatic transition from dictatorship to democratic rebirth.
The exhibition is divided into six sections with an innovative setup, energizing an emotional narrative by combining, in various narrative spaces, digital tools, videos, holographic projections with historical figures, documents, artifacts, and original works of art. The exhibition route restores, through multimedia islands and narrative points, the voices of some protagonists of historical events, nationally known figures such as Mussolini's son-in-law, Galeazzo Ciano, and lesser-known individuals like the Nazi Friedrich Boβhammer, who orchestrates the deportation of Jews from Verona, Rita Rosani, a Jewish partisan who died in battle in 1944, and the antifascist sculptor Vittore Bocchetta, offering the public an authentically immersive experience.
Through documents and testimonies, the exhibition invites reflection on the value of historical memory and the resilience of Verona during and after World War II.
The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Verona, Civic Museums, Veronese Institute for the History of the Resistance and Contemporary Age, has received the recognition of an initiative of significant cultural interest from the Ministry of Culture, and has been realized with the patronage of the Ferruccio Parri National Institute, Fondazione Fioroni, Department of Cultures and Civilizations of the University of Verona, Center for the Museums of the University of Padua, Center for History of the University of Padua, and with the support of the association Friends of the Civic Museums of Verona.
