Festa dei Trombini

Every year in the small village of San Bortolo delle Montagne, the traditional Festa dei Trombini takes place with a Mass, parade, music, folklore, and of course, the resounding and traditional firing of the Trombini.

"The trombini," also known as "s-ciopi" or "pistons," would derive from weapons of war from the seventeenth-eighteenth century, used to instill terror or to make their way through the crowd. They are very heavy, completely harmless, and are now used for the inaugurations of local festivals and on the most important occasions.

The trombini of San Bortolo perpetuate the ancient customs of their ancestors, participating with their powerful guns to solemnize the village festivities. Watching them at work, with their traditional costumes, and especially hearing the very loud bang is an experience not to be missed, an authentic explosion of joy.
