In 1993, the hilarious play by Francis Veber “The Dinner Game” premiered for the first time at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris, later adapted for the big screen in 1998, becoming an absolute international cult.
The plot is simple yet brilliant: every Wednesday evening, a group of friends from high society in Paris gathers for dinner, and each week one of them must bring a “special” guest: a person they consider stupid so they can ridicule them for the entire evening. Successful publisher Pierre Brochant is convinced he has found the perfect target in François Pignon, a clerk at the Ministry of Finance, but unbeknownst to him, Pignon manages to overturn the rules of the “game” and revolutionize Pierre's life in just a few hours in a crescendo of misunderstandings and gags.
“The Dinner Game” is a must-see show, suitable for everyone, whose charm also lies in its wholesome and never vulgar or provocative comedy, which manages to treat an obvious subject intelligently, without falling into gratuitous vulgarity or crude populism.
