Italian premiere for the work of Declan Donnellan, internationally regarded as one of the most important and authoritative contemporary directors of Shakespeare texts.
If Shakespeare is one of the architects of the modern human soul, as Harold Bloom argues, in “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” he will begin to develop many of the elements that will define this conception of being human.
Los dos hidalgos is one of the first comedies in which he sharpens the tensions between friendship and love, tensions that occupied a significant space in late Renaissance literature.
Friendship, understood as a form of asexual love, was analyzed from multiple perspectives and celebrated as a form of strong emotional commitment in contrast to romantic relationships.
It is also one of the most emblematic creations of the comic servant character, which will generate a model that will later feed both the Bard's theater and that of his followers.
Friends for life, Valentine and Proteus fall in love with the same woman: Silvia, the daughter of the Duke of Milan. Far from the lives (and people) they left behind in Verona, a complex story of passion and deception unfolds as they navigate between love, loyalty, bandits, and a dog.
