Pulcheria

She lived in Velo Veronese for more than forty years, in the house behind the Parish Church. She was a midwife, herbalist, healer, confidant. Her name was Pulcheria Caprara, but everyone knew her as the Comare of Velo or the Vecia Comarona. We meet her in the spring of 1948, on the days of Easter, in one of the many houses where she helped bring thousands of boys and girls into the world. Other women move around her, in a world where, as the proverb says, a woman of a household "is three corners". Pulcheria will assist in the birth of a fifth, unwanted daughter at the home of Tertulliano and Norberta, comfort a young future mother, defend the lives of children from their conception, get caught up in the pranks of young unmarried men, and try to correct the mistakes of young people about to marry. The Falìe paint a new fresco of the village that raised them, the village that is their mother.
