The theatre's summer season of Verona opens its Shakespearean review with a preview debut of the new show Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.
On July 3rd and 4th, 2025, at 9:15 PM at the Roman Theater in Verona, Francesco Pannofino and Francesco Acquaroli take on the roles of the two fool characters, secondary figures in William Shakespeare's Hamlet, guided by the Master of Arts Paolo Sassanelli that transports the public back into the atmospheres of Commedia dell’Arte.
The plot follows the adventures of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern as they are summoned to the Danish court to investigate Hamlet's supposed madness, seen through the protagonists' eyes as a funny farce.
The heart of the show is a large cart, inspired by traditional roadside carts, symbolizing movement, transformation, and theatrical play: it continuously transforms, becoming a castle, theater, prison, or street, in a succession of always new scenarios.
An interpretation by Alberto Rizzi in which the philosophical aspect of the text does not dominate, but expands through the powerful exaltation of the comedic part of the story, never losing the emotional richness that characterizes the tragicomedy. The comedy – sometimes farcical, sometimes subtle – intertwines with the absurd, further sharpening the sense of disorientation and helplessness experienced by the protagonists.
