A body that bursts forth, determined, to be seen.
It doesn't ask for permission: it exists. Even before reaching the stage, it questions us.
How many of us are watching? And above all: with what eyes?
The Island of Happy Fat People tells the story of the overweight Mister O, who sets off for Nauru, a Polynesian island where the majority of the population is obese, in search of his well-deserved happy ending.
It is not, however, the story of the actor, the demiurge of the show, who monologues and rambles, spiraling into himself and his daily disasters, determined to be seen.
But with what eyes?
In the vein of a text constructed from biographical traces and interviews, embodying a polyphony of experiences and testimonies, The Island of Happy Fat People is the story of a body that occupies space, that exists and shows itself, in which every movement is already word and every word is already gesture: a stubborn proof of “knowing how to be.”
A story, sometimes tender, of those who want to be seen and not merely observed, of those who seek to exist not as a target to be hit, a creature to be accepted, or a warning to be feared, but simply as a body that knows how to be.
