In the 42nd Stage of the Olympic Flame Journey for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Games, on Sunday, January 18, the final destination for a grand celebration will be the city of Verona, thus entering the nineteenth region to host the passage of the Flame: Veneto.
Starting in the morning, the "Essential" Torch relay will depart from Desenzano del Garda, continuing towards Riva del Garda for about three hours. The third stop is Rovereto, followed by Peschiera del Garda around 4:00 PM, before concluding at 7:30 PM in the beautiful setting of Piazza Bra and the monumental Arena, the vibrant heart of the Olympic Ceremony. Along the way, there will also be special moments at the International Red Cross Museum in Castiglione delle Stiviere, in Torbole, at the Peace Bell in Rovereto, and in Sant'Ambrogio di Valpolicella.
In Verona, departing at 5:30 PM from via Montanari, the passage will involve torchbearers including cyclists Paola Pezzo, Elia Viviani, and Elena Cecchini, and it will be Sara Simeoni, Olympic champion of Moscow 1980, who will have the honor of lighting the cauldron upon arrival in Piazza Bra. Palestinian Aziz Abu Sarah and Israeli Maoz Inon, the two torchbearers for the Olympic Truce, will also be present, already having been part of the great embrace at the Peace Arena 2024 in the presence of Pope Francis.
The itinerary, which started from Greece on Thursday, December 4, 2025, and arrived in Rome two days later, will reach its conclusion on February 6, 2026, at the San Siro Olympic Stadium in Milan, the day of the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics, after having visited all 110 Italian provinces, in a long and emotional journey that involved a large group of 10,001 torchbearers, both Olympic and Paralympic athletes, as well as well-known figures from the entertainment world.
Symbol of peace, competition, and also hope, the flame of the Olympic Torch, coming to life, renews the bond between cultures, generations, and shared ideals, reminding the world with a ritual gesture of the power of sport as a universal bridge to unite peoples, today just as in Ancient Greece.
