From June 25 to September 11, 2027, for a total of ten performances, the 104th Arena di Verona Opera Festival presents La Traviata, which returns to the Arena in the sumptuous production admired for the first time in the past season.
An original and aesthetically impactful interpretation, with direction by Scottish director Paul Curran, that immerses the audience in early 20th century Paris, a place of meeting, artistic and intellectual ferment, with an accurate historical reconstruction that will not sacrifice the spectacularity, as evidenced by the presence of the Moulin Rouge.
The three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, is set in the bohemian Paris of the late 19th century and tells the love story between the worldly woman Violetta Valery and Alfredo Germont. Under pressure from Alfredo's father, Giorgio, and with no way out, the woman pens a heartbroken letter to Alfredo explaining her nostalgia for beloved Paris. Alfredo, filled with rage, swears at her in front of everyone, throwing money at her feet. Once he learns the truth, the man rushes to ask for her forgiveness, but she, suffering from tuberculosis, dies after seeing him for the last time.
Performances: June 25 at 9:15 p.m. - July 3, 10, 16, 22, 31 at 9:15 p.m. - August 14, 26 at 9:00 p.m. - September 4 and 11 at 9:00 p.m.
