After “The Liar” and “Harlequin, Servant of Two Masters”, the Piedmontese actor and theater director Valerio Binasco once again takes on Carlo Goldoni, bringing to the stage “One of the Last Evenings of Carnival”, the play that Goldoni himself described as an autobiographical allegory of farewell, as it was the last work the playwright wrote before leaving Venice to move to Paris. The carnival becomes a backdrop for feelings, marriages, and farewells, a moment in which love withstands the difficulties of life and loneliness.
Binasco does not choose Goldoni's works randomly, but considers him a fine observer of the human soul capable of revealing even its most hidden facets. He sees in him a surprising modernity, as comedy always arises from human fragility, and even characters like Harlequin, Lelio, and Anzoletto are in reality living figures of a humanity that never truly changes.
Binasco's version is a love letter to the theater, whose value is not measured by applause and which is able to question the present thanks to its direct and vital language.
