The World Shakespeare Congress 2026 coincides with the 50th anniversary of the International Shakespeare Association.
The great event will take place in Verona, the quintessential Shakespearean city in the world, from July 20 to July 26.
The event will be held in this extraordinary crossroads of ancient and modern Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as the setting of The Two Gentlemen and Romeo and Juliet.
The WSC will address through the study of Shakespeare's works key issues related to our contemporary culture, favoring themes pertaining to the future of our planet and humanity.
The Congress will promote a discussion on the many ways in which Shakespeare can be conceived as 'planetary', opening dialogues on themes related to globalization, the posthuman, and the virtual.
The Congress foresees a dense schedule of events that will take place in various locations in the center of the city of Verona: the University Poles of Santa Marta, Zanotto, and Foreign Languages and Literatures, the Literary Society of Verona, Juliet's Tomb, and the G. B. Cavalcaselle Museum of Frescoes, the Natural History Museum – Palazzo Pompei.
