Stone stories: the historic quarries (PREARE) of Prun between memory, work, and emigration. An exciting journey in the heart of Lessinia and on the border with Valpolicella, where the stone of Prun tells the geological history of a unique resource and the living memory of the families who have worked it for generations.
You will discover how this precious geo-resource was formed and learn about the history of Prun and the landscape that surrounds it. Guided by the volunteers of the Associazione La Malga odv, the route begins among the characteristic exposed stone houses, ancient courtyards, and slate roofs.
Starting from the parking lot, after a short walk of about 500 meters, we will arrive at the "Preare" where we will be amazed by the transition from the outside light to the cool and mysterious darkness of the underground galleries: imposing stone cathedrals carved by hand, with pillars of rock supporting the mountain and marks left by the stone cutters that freeze time on the layers of pink and white walls.
You will be able to closely observe the traditional extraction techniques, the tools of the trade, and an evocative video with historical images to retrace the labors of the stone cutters and the extraction traditions that have shaped the identity of Prun.
VERONA ROOTS FESTIVAL: Co-financed project with resources from the National Tourism Fund, current part 2026
