Verona, 25 years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site
- REDAZIONALE
My beautiful Verona celebrates a very special mileston this year: 25 years since the recognition of its historic center as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, which took place on November 30,2000, in Cairns, Australia.
A title that pays tribute to the city's extraordinary beauty and the continuity of its history, recognizing Verona as "an exceptional example of a city that has developed progressively and uninterruptedly over more than two thousand years, incorporating artistic elements of the highest quality in every period".
Walking through the streets of the historic center, this interweaving of eras and styles reveals itself at every step: Roman remains, medieval bridges and walls, Renaissance architecture, and traces of Venetian rule coexist in harmony, telling the story of a vibrant, living city.
UNESCO has also recognized that "Verona represents in an exceptional way the concept of a fortified city at several important stages of European history" - its walls, unfolding like rings through time from the Roman period to the Venetian fortifications, still bear witness to the legacy today.
25 anni di sito UNESCO per Verona - Un passato che apre al futuro
To celebrate this important anniversary, on November 24, 2025, the Gran Guardia will host a major conference titled "25 Years as a UNESCO World Heritage Site - A past that opens to the future", a day of reflection and study on the meaning and the future of the site.
The event will bring together prominent speakers, UNESCO experts and institutional representatives in a program rich with engaging topics and valuable insights.
The morning will open with official greetings and a first panel titled "The World Heritage Site and its Management", dedicated to retracing the steps of Verona's UNESCO recognition and exploring the management plan of the "City of Verona" site.
This will be followed by a round table titled "The Historic Center between the UNESCO management plan and municipal urban planning", while in the afternoon the discussion will continue with the panel "Enhancing the World Heritage City" - a stimulating exchange highlighting the richness of Verona's heritage and its future perspectives.
The event will take place in the Conference Hall of the Gran Guardia, and registration is required by clicking here,
