The Church of Santa Croce appears isolated on a small rise, almost suspended above the countryside. Its location tells of a very different plain from today, once marked by wetlands and marshy areas. From here, we proceed towards Sarmazza along a stretch attributed to the ancient Via Postumia.
In Sarmazza, the houses gather around the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, then the space opens up again. This is perhaps the stretch where the identity of the itinerary is best perceived: fields in front, scattered courtyards, rows on the sides, and the hills always present in the distance.
Towards Costalunga, one encounters Villa Buri-Tessari, now Tenuta Vinicola La Capuccina, and the Oratory of San Giovanni Battista; shortly thereafter, we are back near the Alpone stream, the body of water that gives its name to the entire valley.
On the return, amidst the countryside, the bell tower of Monteforte reappears, the point towards which the loop closes.
