Accessible Verona
Every year, Verona strives to improve accessibility. City car parks have reserved spaces for blue badge holders, whilst there are special permits for entering the city centre and museums are accessible and free of charge for people with disabilities.
Below, you can find some useful information about public transport, museums, monuments and services in general.
The city council encourages everyone to contribute to making a more accessible city, which is why I would like to give you some valuable tips to make Verona a more welcoming and inclusive city for everyone.
Car parks
If you display a European blue badge in the windscreen of your vehicle, you can park for free in the marked spaces reserved for people with disabilities in any EU country. Within the city, this badge allows you to park for free in spaces where charges apply (marked blue) and for an unlimited period in spaces where parking discs must be used (marked white)
Parking near the Arena
If you need to go into the city centre, near the Arena, the most convenient spaces for blue badge holders are in Piazza Bra (two spaces), Stradone Maffei (two spaces), Via Adigetto (two spaces) and Via dei Mutliati (two spaces).
ZTL (Restricted Traffic Zone)
The old town of Verona is a restricted traffic zone but vehicles carrying people with disabilities can enter freely, even during times when restrictions apply and using bus and taxis. Just enter the number plate of the vehicle used in the list of authorised vehicles.
If you are planning on visiting Verona, remember to get clearance for your vehicle within 72 hours of entering the ZTL by notifying the local police of your vehicle’s number plate. You should do this using the form provided on the local police’s website. You will also need to submit a copy of your ID document and blue badge.
Public toilets
There are two public toilets in the city which are accessible by lift: in Piazza Bra opposite the Palazzo della Gran Guardia, and in Piazza San Zeno.
Local and regional buses
Buses which are accessible to people with disabilities are easy to identify because they have a blue sticker clearly visible on the side of the vehicle, next to the door. Access for wheelchairs is via the central doors, where there is a ramp.
Currently, 95% of Verona’s city buses are equipped to carry wheelchairs. For regional services, at present more than half of the vehicles are accessible.
In general, particularly if you intend to travel on a regional bus, it is recommended that you always check in advance that the service in question is accessible by contacting the operator ATV telephone or by email, who will reply as soon as possible (for information on regional buses, contact ATV at least 48 hours in advance).
