The Achille Forti Modern Art Gallery is located inside the historic Palazzo della Ragione, situated in the heart of the historic center, between Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori, and includes collections derived from the previous museum collection of Palazzo Forti.
Since 2014, the Achille Forti Modern Art Gallery has been housed in the Palazzo della Ragione, a historic building dating back to the late 12th century and restored in the early 2000s following a project by Tobia and Afra Scarpa. The gallery preserves a heritage of approximately 1,700 works of art, representing a chronological span from the 19th century to the present day. The collection, formed through donations from artists such as Ugo Zannoni and Angelo Dall’Oca Bianca, as well as bequests from patrons like the illustrious botanist Achille Forti, after whom the gallery is named, constitutes a prestigious collection of works where the specificities of the Veneto region meet the most refined and significant outcomes of Italian and international research.
Masterpieces such as Meditation (1851) by Francesco Hayez (1791-1882), Advancing (1896) by Angelo Morbelli (1853-1919), Bookmaker (1894) and Ecce puer (1906) by Medardo Rosso (1858-1928) are showcased alongside works by Veronese artists active in the early decades of the 20th century, who gathered around the charismatic figure of Felice Casorati, and the protagonists of the 19th and 20th centuries, who bear witness to the profound changes in modern languages. Since 1987, the gallery has been characterized by the development of a collection dedicated to contemporary art, which today includes approximately 450 works by authors such as Cindy Sherman, Vanessa Beecroft, Spencer Tunick, and other prestigious names.
Alongside the exhibition paths dedicated to the collection – renewed with setups that rotate the extensive civic heritage – the Galleria d'Arte Moderna curates and organizes exhibitions that present in-depth studies focused on historically significant international artists and investigate the themes of pressing contemporary relevance, with the specific aim of expanding the boundaries of culture and envisioning the future.
