The story in Monteforte has very deep roots. From 1570 to today, the Gini family counts 15 generations of winemakers who, with great enthusiasm, have passed down the best experiences and valuable secrets from father to son. Thanks to this treasure tied to a philosophy that has moved to the rhythm of nature since ancient times, they still guard an exclusive heritage of old vines essential for great wines.
Sandro and Claudio, keepers of the passion inherited from their father Olinto, manage not just a business, but a small viticultural ecosystem.
Thanks to organic farming and manual processing, the old vines over 120 years old can produce grapes of the highest quality.
The estate covers 55 hectares and is divided between the historic hills of Soave Classico in Monteforte and “Tenuta Scajari” in Campiano in the eastern area of the Valpolicella DOC. On this hill, restored to its ancient splendor, Valpolicella and Amarone with unique identities come to life.
In the historic center of Monteforte, the underground cellar (excavated in the volcanic rock typical of the Soave area) was built in several stages from the 1980s to the late 1990s using only local materials. This rock, particularly difficult to work and shape, has however provided incredible functionality. The cellar enjoys a constant temperature and a particular humidity that favors the aging of wines in wood and bottle.
The estate covers 35 hectares and all the vineyards are located on hills so the water flows and penetrates the soil, but does not stagnate and dries quickly. This way, many risks of diseases and fungi on the plants and therefore on the fruit are avoided.
Thus, great white aging wines are born, capable of extraordinary evolution and longevity, maintaining the acidity and minerality that distinguishes them by using 100% Garganega grapes.
