Biblioteca Comunale Mario Franzosi

The Municipality of Villafranca di Verona decides to name the new Municipal Library, to honor him appropriately, after Maestro Mario Franzosi, Teacher and historian (1915-2002).

The Maestro completed his primary studies (eight classes) at the elementary school in Villafranca; a student of teacher Elena Bozzi.

He has shown a propensity for history, geography, and linguistics since he was a boy.

He completes his secondary studies at the Collegio degli Stimmatini in Verona and graduates as a teacher in July 1938 at the “Carlo Montanari” Institute in Verona, thanks to the immense sacrifices of his mother, who was widowed.

He begins teaching in state elementary schools. During the war, he serves in the military as an officer in the 87th Infantry Regiment of the “Friuli” division, stationed in Arezzo.

Having evaded capture by the Germans, after the war he begins a series of transfers as a teacher in various towns and locations in the surrounding area until 1965, when he is assigned to the School Patronage of Villafranca, where he remains until retirement.

He has produced numerous monographs and studies on Villafranca and neighboring towns in connection with the glorious and fortunate series “Le guide” by the publisher Vita Veronese.

In 2004, a monograph edited by G. Franco Viviani titled "Mario Franzosi il Maestro" is published by Ed. Croma Srl - Dossobuono.
