The famous Caffè Fantoni, a historic establishment located in the heart of Villafranca di Verona, was founded in 1842 by Giovanni Fantoni, creator of the famous sfogliatine, which have become a renowned classic not only of the Caffè but of the entire town.
Giovanni was succeeded by his nephew, Marcello Fantoni, who inherited the pastry-making art from his grandfather when the city of the Square was still Austrian. The fame and prestige of Caffè Fantoni were remarkable, especially in the early decades of the last century, not only for the quality of its products but also for the wit of those who created them, playfully commenting on or supporting the historical events of the time. The current owners of the Caffè, great-grandchildren of Marcello Fantoni, are restoring the establishment to its former glory.
In addition to the tasty sfogliatine and good coffee, it is also possible to taste the typical Acqua di Fiume, a clear and light distillate dedicated to d'Annunzio's enterprise and his legionaries.
