The origins of the church of Saints Peter and Paul in Mozzecane are unknown. The earliest testimonies date back to the 12th century when the papal Bull “Piae postulatio voluntatis” of 1145, promulgated by Pope Eugene III, reveals that there was a “chapel” in Mozzecane, subject, along with the neighboring ones of St. Zeno “ad Modium” and Tormine, to the parish of St. Lawrence of Grezzano. The church was elevated to parish status before 1526.
The current building is the result of renovations that took place between 1747 and 1754. The completion of the facade dates back to 1929, while the interior decoration was done in 1941 by the Veronese painter Giuseppe Resi. The building features a gabled façade in a Baroque style, oriented to the northwest. The bell tower is attached to the northern side of the church. On the apse wall, a frame with stucco reliefs encloses the painting depicting the “Madonna with Child and Saints Paul and Faustinus,” an artwork by the painter Giovanni Caroto (circa 1540); in the upper lunette is the painting by Giuseppe Resi (1941) representing “Jesus Christ with Saints Peter and Paul.”
The nave and the presbytery are covered by semi-cylindrical vaults with lateral arches, made of plastered cane with tempera decorations. The roof has two slopes supported by wooden trusses. The flooring of the nave is made of cement tiles with polychrome decorations; the floor of the presbytery is composed of alternating squares of red Verona marble and white marble arranged in diagonal courses.
