The first place of worship dedicated to St. Francis of Assisi in Vago di Lavagno was built during the 16th century as a private oratory of the noble Da Lisca family. With the increase in population, the construction of a larger temple became necessary in the 19th century.
The current church was built between 1990 and 1992, designed by architect Francesco Loi. The building features a contemporary style façade: at the center, preceded by a staircase and protected by a portico supported by columns, the entrance portal opens. On either side, there are ten small square windows. Above the portico, there is a large oculus covered by a glass window, which illuminates the interior of the building.
The interior of the church, characterized by simple and essential lines, features a spacious and airy pseudo-rhombus spatial layout, characterized by a single nave whose walls converge towards the raised presbytery, completed with a semicircular wall, the focal element of the composition from which all the geometry of the design seems to radiate, and to which converge the lines, natural light games filtered through the stained glass and the progressive elevation of the roof. The roof is sail-like, with a curvilinear section, and has a supporting structure made of laminated wooden beams.
