The original church was built in 1678 and enlarged in 1743. Until 1798, it served as a chapel of the parish of Selva from which it separated itself and was established as an autonomous parish. The consecration took place in 1856.
The building features a neoclassical gable facade facing south. It has a rectangular single-nave layout, with a quadrangular presbytery raised by three steps and concluding with a semicircular apse. Along the sides of the nave, four semi-chapels house the altar of the Madonna and the altar of St. Joseph on the western side, the altar of the SS. Patrons James and Lucia, and the altar of St. Heart is instead located on the opposite side.
The internal facades are marked by pilasters with simple molded capitals, supporting a molded entablature with a decorated frieze that connects the overall composition. The presbytery, introduced by a triumphal arch with a full mold, is spatially defined by four projecting semi-columns. The nave and presbytery are covered by barrel vaults and the apse is closed by a spherical half-dome.
The vaulted surfaces feature an intricate decorative scheme that designs false frames and transverse ribs, enriched with representations of the four Evangelists (nave), angels (presbytery), and the Last Supper (apse basin). It has a gable roof with a supporting wooden structure and a covering of terracotta tiles.
The flooring of the nave is made of terrazzo with chips of multicolored marbles, while the presbytery is paved with alternating squares of red Verona marble and white marble, arranged in diagonal courses.
