The origins of the Church of San Leonardo date back to 1472 and it seems that the original structure had three naves.
Expanded in 1541, it became an independent parish in 1553 and was subsequently consecrated in 1574.
The current church, in neoclassical style, was built alongside the existing church between 1848 and 1852.
Between 1866 and 1870, the painter Pittaco frescoed the interior of the building, while the construction of the monumental pronaos that precedes the facade took place between 1885 and 1892. Between 1925 and 1942, the bell tower was erected and in 1967 the old Romanesque church was demolished.
A large rectory, still visible today, was built in its place.
The neoclassical forms of the exterior of the building are emphasized by the presence of the pronaos.
The interior consists of a single nave with a vaulted ceiling in the pavilion style.
The roof is a double slope covered with tiles and the flooring is made of square tiles of white and pink limestone from Lessinia.
The presbytery is square-shaped and concludes with a semicircular-shaped apse. Along the sides of the nave, there are four smaller altars, two on each side: the altars of San Rocco and the Madonna on the western side, and the others of the Crucifix and San Leonardo on the opposite side.
Near the entrance, there are two niches on both sides, with the one on the eastern side originally housing the baptismal font.
On the left side of the presbytery is the weekday chapel, on the opposite side is the sacristy; both rooms are accessible from the nave and connected to the apse space. The main entrance is located at the center of the facade wall, preceded by a pronaos accessible by overcoming the high external staircase with three flights; an internal wooden vestibule with an overhanging choir. On both sides of the nave, centrally located, there are two minor entrances, with the left one preceded by a high external staircase, while the one on the opposite side communicates with the internal areas of the adjacent rectory. The bell tower rises isolated on the eastern side of the parish complex.
The pronaos consists of four imposing columns with composite capitals, supporting a robust molded entablature and the triangular pediment with a dentil frame and decorated tympanum, topped by three stone statues on pedestals. The atrium, reachable from the three flights of the high monumental staircase, is characterized by a facade divided into three parts by four Corinthian pilasters, corresponding to the columns of the pronaos.
In the central section, the entrance portal opens with a white stone frame concluded by a triangular tympanum on voluted brackets; on the sides, two niches house the statues of St. Augustine and St. Vincent de Paul. In the upper register, beyond the molded frame that runs along the entire facade, three framed sections with stucco frames enclose two paintings representing scenes from the Old and New Testaments, on the sides, and the inscription dedicating to the Patron, "D.O.M. ET. S. LEONARDO", in the center.
