In the history of the religious life of the Cimbri from the Veronese mountains, every period marked by an improvement in living conditions and consequently by a demographic increase corresponds to the construction of new chapels decentralized across the territory.
This also happened in Bosco Chiesanuova at the beginning of the Eighteenth Century, when the inhabitants of the northernmost part of the parish decided to build a new church, much closer to their homes, receiving as the only constraint the obligation to remain linked to the main parish church. Thus, in 1723, the parish priest at that time, Don Melchiorre Calzereri de Prati, signed the agreement, and within two years, the work was completed. In 1725, worship officially began at the Church of San Michele di Maregge.
The Sunday mass was celebrated until 1830, but after this date, the oratory was certainly not abandoned: in 1871, the church was provided with a beautiful Via Crucis, and at the beginning of the 1900s, the wooden statue of the archangel was placed above the altar. At the peak of the roof, there is also an Archangel Gabriel, who watches over the entrance to the high pastures of Lessinia and oversees the people, the houses, and the activities taking place in the valley below.
How to get there: To reach the small church of San Michele al Maregge, follow provincial road number 6 that continues from Bosco Chiesanuova towards San Giorgio. The church is located along the road once you arrive in the vicinity of Maregge.
