The first records regarding the church of S. Pietro in Lavagno date back to 1532. At that time, the church was a simple chapel subject to the Pieve of S. Briccio in Lavagno. It was enlarged in shape and size during the first two decades of the 19th century.
The building features a gabled façade in neoclassical style, facing west. Four Tuscan order pilasters frame the entrance portal, surmounted by a tympanum supported by molded corbels. On either side of the portal, within two niches, are the statues of Saints Peter and Paul. The vertical end of the façade is concluded with a tympanum with a slightly projecting cornice.
The plan layout consists of a single aisle, with a raised quadrangular presbytery concluded by a semicircular apse. Along the nave are located the altars of St. Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Assumption on the left side, and the altars of Saints John the Baptist and Louis and that of the Crucifix on the opposite side. The nave is punctuated by slender pilasters and crowned by a frieze with a decorative band.
An expansive barrel vault with lateral ribs covers the aisle, featuring a central painting depicting “Jesus Christ the Good Shepherd,” while the presbytery showcases a cross vault where the Agnus Dei and Angels are painted. Finally, the apse basin is decorated with a painting depicting “Jesus Christ blessing with angels and saints.”
The flooring of the nave is made of pink-tinged slabs, while that of the presbytery is composed of polychrome marbles.
