The Church of the hamlet of Sprea was rebuilt on the foundations of the previous church towards the end of the 1800s, thanks to donations of money and materials from the local faithful.
Like the first one, it is dedicated to Saint Roch, the protector of pilgrims, the plague-stricken, and more generally those infected, pharmacists, and undertakers (in some places, also the workers of hides), as the entire area was struck by the plague of 1630; entire districts were destroyed and the dead were buried near their homes, whose bones were frequently exhumed up until a century ago.
There are no official documents that mention the time when the first church was built; however, according to tradition, it dates back to the 14th century.
