The church in the Scandolaro area offers an unrivaled view of the valley below. An example of the beauties of our territory, it was built of gray stone, in a rectangular shape with a single nave, and is completed by a small bell tower with two-light windows.
The first document concerning the church dates back to 1444. Historians trace the building to around 1100, a thesis supported by a document from 1091, in which Henry III donated the possession of some land in San Giovanni Ilarione to the Benedictines of San Felice in Vicenza.
The architectural elements also reflect the Romanesque period: the bell tower with its two-light windows, the gable roof, and the round arches. Starting from the 16th century, the church was neglected over time, despite the bishop's invitation to restore it, which happened many years later (1981).
Inside, placed on the altar, there is a stone statue from 1442 depicting Saint Zeno, the first bishop of Verona. During World War II, it was used by the Germans; it served as a parish church for a short time before humbly returning to obscurity.
Recently, it has been restored and reopened for worship.
