The church of S. Egidio is located in the heart of the village of Tregnago. The first document attesting its existence dates back to 1304, but the official consecration took place in 1496 when the bishop blessed the main altar in honor of St. Egidio the abbot and the saintly confessing bishops Cirino, Egizio, and Euprepio; however, it is very likely that its origins can be traced back to the 9th - 10th century, during the Carolingian period.
The original building had an orientation opposite to the current one, while the bell tower and the sacristy have maintained their position. Surrounding it was a cemetery where many inhabitants of Tregnago, even at the end of the Middle Ages, requested, through their wills, to be buried.
Enlarged and rebuilt in classical forms in the first half of the 18th century, in 1921 the trusses and exposed beams were decorated by the then chaplain Don Spada. Inside the church, there is a painting by Brusasorzi.
