A first church in Selva di Progno was built as early as the 15th century. This original building, of small dimensions, is now used as a weekday chapel. The current building, in neoclassical style, dates back to the 19th century.
The church features a neoclassical façade, divided into three parts by Corinthian pilasters and with a decorative frieze at the top. Four pilasters resting on a high base of local white stone support the entablature and frame the rectangular entrance portal, above which an inscription set in a semi-circular arch recalls the date of construction of the building (1862). The frieze of the pediment, along the entire perimeter, is decorated with brackets, while the tympanum is adorned with a painted false rose window. At the summit, embedded in a conical stone support, stands a slender iron cross.
The church has a rectangular floor plan consisting of a single nave, with a quadrangular presbytery raised by three steps, concluding with a semicircular apse. Along the sides of the nave, four semi-chapels accommodate the altar of St. John Bosco and the altar of the Madonna on the northern side, and the altar of the Virgin and the altar of the Sacred Heart on the opposite side. On the southern side of the presbytery are located the sacristy and the weekday chapel (an ancient 15th-century little church).
The interior environment presents a spacious and airy spatial layout, diffusely illuminated by the upper windows, characterized by a harmonious and regular architectural composition and a sober decorative apparatus; a greater decorative refinement is evident on the vaulted surfaces. The internal façades are marked by Corinthian pilasters decorated with false flutes, on which rests the high molded entablature with an ornate frieze. The presbytery, introduced by a triumphal arch, is spatially defined by four projecting Corinthian polystylic semi-pilasters.
The nave is covered by a lowered barrel vault, decorated in the center with a tempera painting depicting the Assumption of the Madonna. The presbytery is topped by a dome adorned with tempera paintings representing God the Father, in the center, among a group of Saints enclosed within drawn frames; in the spandrels, the four Evangelists are depicted, and the apse area is concluded with a spherical semi-dome on which is painted "Jesus Christ enthroned with Saints." It features a gabled roof with a supporting wooden structure and a concrete tile covering.
The bell tower, with a square plan and a shaft devoid of decorative elements, rises adjacent to the church's apse.
