The outer oval track of the Park is the nineteenth century hippodrome track, which was sheltered by a row of plane trees.
The land within the track was cultivated at least until the 1920's: then the area closest to Viale della Stazione was turned into a soccer field. The first major works were undertaken in 1935 in order to turn the area into a real park. In the early 1940's the park-garden was exploited as a heliotherapy camp, but after the Second World War drastic and urgent works were undertaken in order to repair the severe damages caused by the war. In the late 1980's the green area outside the track was equipped as a "Fitness Trail".
The building within the park was a typical dance hall of the 1940's and 1950's and it was called "The Cricket". Afterwards, the building continued to be a gathering place: it housed exhibitions, conferences and meetings, then it became a gym. In the early 1970's two playing fields were built next to it.
The marble statue of Vittorio Emanuele II, in the center of the park, was made in 1880 by Innocenzo Fraccaroli, a renowned Veronese sculptor. Initially located in front of the Duomo and the old Town Hall, it gave its name to the square (which was previously called Piazza d'Armi). It was moved in 1949 to the municipal park for urban planning reasons.
