The International Center of Photography Scavi Scaligeri is located in the center of the city of Verona, next to two important and vast squares: Piazza Erbe and Piazza dei Signori, and close to one of the most important monuments of the Scaliger era, the complex of the Arche Scaligere, the tombs of the Lords of the Scala.
The archaeological area was brought to light during an excavation between 1981 and 1983, and in 1996, the path was inaugurated as an exhibition center, featuring an exhibition dedicated to American photographers Peter and David Turnley. The exhibition introduced the space to the public, which has since hosted exhibitions dedicated exclusively to photography.
The appeal of the space and its uniqueness is due to the fact that it is a gallery set within an archaeological path.
Alongside the exhibitions, the International Center of Photography Scavi Scaligeri organizes various initiatives, such as thematic workshops, educational itineraries for adults and children, photography courses, shows, and readings that connect their content to the material on display from time to time.
