The 3 crosses of C. Baldo - orange trail
Starting from the Church of St. Anthony the Abbot in Vestenanova, you can encounter along the route three of the four crosses erected at the end of the 1800s by Celestino Baldo, a poor shepherd from Vestenavecchia who lived from 1828 to 1900.
You first descend towards the Alpone stream, then ascend to the Stanghellini district (home to a famous waterfall of the Alpone, currently not visitable). You climb up to the Cerati district (with a beautiful cross in the Borgoletto area) and continue towards Rugolotti (a place for berry cultivation), from where you reach Camponogara (notable for a votive capital).
Through the Fenile district, you reach Bolca and continue through Mount Spilecco (site of shark teeth findings) until you ascend Mount Pergo where the second cross (1898) of Celestino Baldo stands tall. From Pergo, you can glimpse Mount Quarto of S. Bortolo delle Montagne where the fourth cross (1900) is located. You then descend towards "Moto dei Baldi," an ideal place to admire splendid panoramas and the ancient Baldi district, arriving at the Castellaro area where the third cross (1899), which had been struck down by lightning, has been recently restored.
Through the woods, you reach Vestenavecchia: in the square near the Parish Church, you find the first cross (1894) of Celestino Baldo and the hike concludes at the foot of the Fratta hill where the ancient Church of St. Anthony the Abbot has stood since the 12th century.
