The Monument to the "Pistoniere" is a monument that refers to the "trombini" or "pistoni". The Trombino of Lessinia Cimbra, also known as "sciopo da sagra," is a muzzleloading firearm, although due to its size, shape, and technique, it can only be loaded with blanks and must be aimed exclusively at the ground. This makes it harmless.
The term "sciopo da sagra" hints at the typical function of the Trombino. Today, the roar of the explosions marks the beginning of village festivals and fairs, celebrating the patron saint and civil anniversaries. In the past, the firing of the Trombini also accompanied the rites of Holy Week and other religious festivals, welcoming the new year and new priests and bishops on pastoral visits.
