Palazzo dei Diamanti, (whose full name is palazzo Cappella Sansebastiani Bellini Carnesali), is an imposing palace located in the historic center of Verona, not far from the Arena Amphitheater.
The name attributed to it derives from the peculiar appearance of the "diamond-point" stones that decorate its facade.
These are blocks of white marble sculpted in the shape of truncated pyramids, creating a suggestive effect of light and shadow, making it similar to the more famous Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara.
On the main floor, there are double windows with Ionic columns and windows topped with linear tympanums.
Very likely, in place of this palace, there stood, at least from the early years of the fifteenth century, a residence owned by the Cappella family.
This family gained increasing prominence over the years, and one of its members, Camillo Cappella, was the commissioner for the construction of the new building.
However, he was often absent due to his public duties as a public man and legal expert; therefore, the works of the palace were at least partially overseen by his wife Elena Sansebastiani.
A plaque dedicated to the woman, placed inside the building, testifies that the construction works were completed in the year 1582.
Besides being a noble residence, the Palace was initially the headquarters of the Filotima Academy and then passed through the ownership of numerous families, until it was purchased in the early decades of the 20th century by an important banking institution.
The building is currently a private palace and is not open to visits, but its splendid facade can be freely admired while strolling through the streets of the city center.
