The pile-dwelling site of Tombola, located in the natural oasis Valle Brusà in Cerea (VR), represents a significant testimony of the Bronze Age. Since 2011, it has been included in the UNESCO serial site "Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps," which brings together settlements from Italy and other European countries. Discovered in 1955 by Francesco Zorzi, the site was more extensively investigated in 1999 by the Superintendency for Archaeological Heritage of Veneto, under the direction of Luciano Salzani.
The excavations uncovered 164 wooden piles and remains of horizontal beams, clues of elevated structures in a marshy environment of the paleovalley of the Menago River. Approximately 620 kg of pottery and artifacts made of bronze, bone, and horn were also recovered, including a dagger and pins. These findings document the daily life and activities of the prehistoric communities that inhabited the area.
