Villa Trabucchi was built in the mid-19th century by Don Luigi Provolo, chaplain of the ancient church of San Colombano, in an enviable position overlooking the Val d'Illasi on one side and the Val Tramigna on the other.
After the death of the prelate, it was turned into a sort of convalescent home, as the local inhabitants were looking for a healthy and quiet place. In the 1920s, it was purchased by lawyer Marco Trabucchi and has since undergone expansions and improvements that have increasingly enhanced and enriched the original structure. The villa, currently owned by Professor Giuseppe Trabucchi, is now complemented by a large wine cellar that extends entirely underground for over 3000 square meters.
In 1958, Professor Alberto Trabucchi commissioned the construction of the small church dedicated to San Marco Evangelista in memory of his father. The style echoes and reinterprets the structures of medieval-Romanesque churches found in the valley.
The facade is gabled, adorned with a circular window known as the “eye” and preceded by a portico with three full arches. The roof, with an overhanging eave, is a two-pitched roof, covered with Venetian tiles.
The bell tower has a square plan and in its bell chamber, there are 9 bells, famous for the concerts held every year for the trophy in memory of Professor Alberto Trabucchi.
Of great value, in the apse, is the fresco by Marco Marcola, a neoclassical painter from the 1700s, transferred using the ripping technique from the Church of San Giacomo Maggiore, which was located in Verona on Via XX Settembre, a work by architect Alessandro Pompei (1705-1772) in the second half of the 18th century, destroyed in 1960 to make way for new residences. The scene depicts the moment when St. James is led to martyrdom.
