The chapel was built outside the walls of the villa at the behest of the noble Francesco Negri in 1628.
It has a gabled façade facing south and features a rectangular portal topped by a triangular pediment. Aligned with the portal is an oculus, while on either side of the entrance are two large rectangular windows, as tall as the entrance door.
It has a rectangular floor plan. The presbytery, which is square in shape, is preceded by a triumphal arch and elevated by two steps; it is flanked by two small rooms that can be used as sacristies. The altarpiece in the presbytery depicts Saint Francis.
In 2008, with the owners' consent, the San Francesco Association was established, which carried out restoration work on the chapel.
